Blue Zones® just published an article commenting on a recent Gallup study: adults in the U.S. who regularly say hello to multiple people in their neighborhood have higher well-being than those who greet fewer or no neighbors. Americans’ well-being score increases steadily by the number of neighbors greeted, from 51.5 among those saying hello to zero neighbors to 64.1 for those greeting six neighbors.
You can read the article using the link below, but this is the opportunity to thank all the folks in Olalla who are creating opportunities to greet our neighbors. They facilitate social connections and therefore participate to our wellbeing. It is especially important in communities like ours, with quite a bit of physical distance separating each individual home.
I'm thinking without being exhaustive:
Olalla Community Club, especially with their concerts,
Olalla Grange,
Olalla Bay Market, a hub for meeting all kind of folks from our community,
Olalla Winery, especially with their various events,
Olalla Food Center
Olalla Circle of Friends creating connections through shared interests (part of Positive Olalla Projects).
If you would like to share any additional ways or places where greeting our neighbors is made possible, shoot us a line using the contact form and we'll add your suggestions to this article.
