More Than a Flea Market: A Wonderful Fall Day in Olalla

Treasures were found, neighbors connected, and a new community tradition may just have begun!

Fall has always been my favorite season. The beautiful colors, the crisp air, the slower pace, and that irresistible feeling of wanting to gather before winter settles in.

And this past Saturday, October 10, Olalla gave me another reason to love it!

Our very first Olalla Community Fall Flea Market was a wonderful success! And judging by the smiles, conversations, and enthusiastic feedback, it's clear that our community was ready for something like this.

Treasures, Treasures Everywhere!

From early morning, treasure hunters were arriving at the Olalla Grange, eager to see what they might discover.

And there was plenty to explore! Vintage finds, clothing, books, household items, artwork, handbags, handmade creations, and all sorts of unexpected treasures. The kind of wonderful assortment that makes a flea market a flea market.

The morning was particularly lively, but visitors continued to arrive throughout the afternoon. Our sellers were delighted with the turnout, and a few were so successful that they actually ran out of things to sell and headed home early!

Our two additional Treasure Stops, New Roots Treasures and The Lazy Lily, extended the treasure hunt beyond the Grange, making it a little adventure around Olalla and its surroundings.

The Best Discoveries Weren't for Sale

As much as I enjoyed seeing people browsing and finding treasures, something else caught my attention.

Everywhere I looked, neighbors were stopping to talk. Small groups formed here and there. People caught up with old friends, met new ones, and simply enjoyed spending a little time together.

And I found myself thinking: This is exactly why we need events like this.

Not every community gathering needs a big program or elaborate entertainment. Sometimes all we need is a reason to leave the house, wander around, and bump into one another.

In fact, those spontaneous conversations have already inspired an idea for our next flea market: a dedicated little gathering area with tables and chairs, where visitors can sit, enjoy a coffee or tea, and linger awhile.

A little like the Lavender Plaza at the Olalla Lavender Festival, but with its own flea-market personality.

Because the best treasure of the day might just be a good conversation.

A Little Cup of Happiness

Our modest coffee and tea bar was another happy surprise! With hot drinks and a few sweet treats, it quickly became a much-appreciated stop for visitors and sellers alike.

It wasn't anything elaborate, but sometimes those small, welcoming touches make all the difference. And next time, perhaps we'll give everyone a proper place to sit and enjoy that cup of happiness!

Thank You for Making It Happen!

A heartfelt thank-you to the Olalla Grange for welcoming this first market, to all our sellers for bringing such a wonderful variety of treasures, and to the volunteers who helped bring everything together.

A special thank-you to Olalla Bay Market, whose generous contribution helped make this first flea market possible. Once again, they've shown what it means to be a business that truly supports its community. From being the presenting sponsor of the Olalla Lavender Festival to supporting smaller neighborhood gatherings like this one, their commitment to Olalla is something we deeply appreciate!

Thank you also to our additional Treasure Stops, New Roots Treasures and The Lazy Lily, and of course to everyone who came out to shop, browse, visit, and support this new community event.

Your enthusiasm and encouragement confirmed what we had hoped: there's room in Olalla for another simple, friendly gathering that brings neighbors together.

Already Thinking About Spring!

One of the questions I heard most often on Saturday was, "When is the next flea market?"

Well, how about Spring 2027? 🌷

We're already looking forward to bringing everyone together again, with more treasures to discover and perhaps a few new touches inspired by this first experience!

Fall in Olalla Is Far From Over!

The flea market may be behind us, but autumn still has plenty to offer!

There's more local music, community fun, and seasonal festivities ahead, including upcoming gatherings at the Olalla Community Club, the community Trunk or Treat, and other opportunities to support our local businesses and organizations.

Keep following I Love Olalla for details, and let's continue making the most of this beautiful season.

One community, many reasons to gather.

And one last question: Did you come treasure hunting on Saturday? What did you find? We'd love to hear about your discoveries and what you'd enjoy seeing at our next flea market!

See you around Olalla! 🍂❤️
