New History Exhibit: Beautiful Downtown Olalla Opens May 21

Celebrating the Past, Honoring the Heart of Our Community

We’re excited to share something special with the Olalla community — a new historical exhibit that brings our town’s story to life.

Opening on Wednesday, May 21, the exhibit Beautiful Downtown Olalla will be on display at The Landing at Olalla Bay Market, highlighting more than a century of local history through photos, artifacts, and community memories.

This curated collection traces the many roles that the Market and its surrounding property have played in Olalla’s evolution — from a general store, boarding house, post office, and hamburger stand to the café, artisan shop, and gathering place we know today. It’s a powerful reminder that this location has always been much more than a business — it’s been a part of who we are.

The opening reception will feature special guest Joanne Clark, a local historian who has helped preserve and share the stories that shaped our town. The event is free and open to all, and the exhibit will remain on view through June during regular business hours.

A Community Effort

This exhibit is part of a larger grassroots movement to recognize and protect the cultural and community value of the Market and The Landing. Since August 2024, more than 3,500 people have signed a petition of support, and many have spoken at County meetings, shared letters, and contributed stories that reflect just how much this place means to Olalla.

“The Market has always been more than a store,” says Huguette Marsicano, founder of I Love Olalla and sponsor of the exhibit. “It’s where people gather, where small businesses grow, and where Olalla’s sense of connection truly lives. This exhibit reminds us that the heart of this town has always been right here.”

Whether you’re a lifelong resident or new to the area, this exhibit is for you — a tribute to our shared past and a celebration of the community spirit that continues to thrive today.
